We’ve developed a better style of family travel, one that favors real life experiences over the virtual ones. Start with kid-friendly hotels (swimming pool included), and then sprinkle in a tuk-tuk ride through the streets of Bangkok, a football match with Maasai tribesmen or sailing down the Nile in an Egyptian felucca. Closer to home, you could hunt for wildlife with an experienced wolf tracker in Yellowstone National Park, cruise past icy glaciers in Alaska or stargaze in Zion National Park. Who needs a ball pit and a buffet when you’ve got the whole world to play in?

Forget shuffleboard and cabaret—adventure cruising is all about the destination.
Cruising is an adventure in itself, but the beauty of travelling on a small ship with less than 50 passengers means the real fun begins when we pull into port or drop anchor at an island. It means you’ll get to know the locals, rather than outnumber them.
You’ll still be looked after by your crew and get to relax on the deck, but you’ll also get to kayak along the rivers of Krka National Park, explore Montenegro’s surprising fjordic landscapes, or snorkel with giant Galapagos tortoises. It’s about going where the big ships can’t so you can swim in hidden coves, buy fish at local markets to barbeque for dinner, and wander through little Croatian laneways with your leader.
